Volunteering with AFID: First step- Done !

I did mention in my earlier post, that I need to make the first step in order to materialize my plan, of which I did immediately after posting my thoughts for the day and weekend. I received email reply, and here it is ;

Hi Irwan

Thank you for your interest, its great to hear you are considering sharing your much needed skills and experience. You will find lots of information about our programme on our website www.afid.org.uk including FAQs, blogs, interviews, assignment costs and the details of our partners work. There is also a number of recent news items on our Facebook page. If its something of interest I would recommend reading through the website and if its still of interest that we schedule a call to discuss the programme and your interest in more detail. Im sure you have lots of questions.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Neil

Even though I have done that reading, but I guess I should have browsed and explored every pages of the website, which I will do ..

Wish me luck !

Volunteering for Accountant

I was reading an article about one volunteer who recently participated in one of the programs organized by Accounting for International Development, with great interest.

Off late, it has been my interest to be involved in this type of activities, as a way of me giving back to the society. I have been involved in other type of volunteering activities in Doha, Qatar but not not related to my profession as an accountant or shall I say specifically my skills as an accountant. So, the article really come at the right time. However, I have the same doubts about myself whether I can actually doing it ? a lot of things are going on in my mind while the clock is tickling "tik tok tik tok" . However, I shall make at least the first move by contacting the opportunity to start and be part of them. While people are on their summer vacation or enjoying the beach, why not I am to be part of the programs right ? Why shall I hesitate if it is something for good cause ? Right ?

    In a country gripped by intractable poverty the weakest are the hardest hit, perhaps nobody is more vulnerable than the youngest and disabled. Deafness is one of the most severe and least recognized disabilities. When ears are injured or permanently harmed it can cause lifelong damage. The effects, especially on children, can be devastating. In children it impairs development of language and speech which in turn can dramatically slow progress in education. In adults it causes vocational and economic difficulties. While in the elderly it leads to loneliness and neglect. All Ears Cambodia was created not merely to provide essential medical help but because it is a basic human right for all children and adults to be free to live in health, peace and dignity. It is the only aid organization providing ear and hearing medical services for all Cambodians from newborns to the elderly. It prides itself on its ability to build partnerships with government bodies and institutes, hospitals and schools, and the communities in which people live. All Ears Cambodia focuses on the weakest and hardest hit. Target groups include:
  • Profoundly deaf children
  • Deaf-blind children
  • Orphans
  • Children infected with HIV
  • Former child labourers
  • Street children
  • Victims of domestic violence, or trafficking and prostitution
  • Poor communities within regions without any access to specialist health care
