Malaysians gets free email -think again !

Opposition protests show email idea has merit

Another idea yet little or adequate explanations being provided by the party involve. From my reading, seems that the idea of providing email to all Malaysian citizens who are > 18 years old, though voluntarily is not well received by many Malaysians. The arguments, if I may share are based on the following premises ;

1. Another RM 50 million public fund goes to the drain ;
2. One way the government tries to control and monitor Malaysians- what email sent and what email received;
3. Who is this Tricubes Sdn Bhd ? A financially trouble listed company ? ;
4. We already have Gmail, Yahoo and Facebook. I do not need another email account;

Of course, interested parties play the issue well- depending which side are. However, let me share with you without taking any side on the issue, trying to look into the issue for the general interest of Malaysians i.e. the bigger picture of the initiative.

1. Another RM 50 million public funds goes to the drain

If I read Tricubes Sdn Bhd strategy well, should this is proven as a successful venture, they shall export this to other countries all over the world. Tricubes may emulate the other free email service providers.Sound interesting ? All the best to them

Though, PEMANDU has clarified that there is no public funds involve as this is 100 % private initiative people do not buy the idea. I do not blame the public as the latter have had enough of " using public funds for unnecessary expenditure or white elephants projects for too long ". To add salt to the wound, the public demanded explanation how this Tricubes Sdn Bhd, a fairly unknown and unheard listed company with financially problem company suddenly become the "subject of scrutiny" by the public. How transparent is the process of Tricubes Sdn Bhd appointment ? The public would like to know about this. For the benefit of the doubts, say it is 100 % private initiative like any other business like Facebook, Google and Yahoo, the next question that needs to be answered is how Tricubes Sdn Bhd will generate its income and profitability to turn around the company after spending RM 50 million for such a huge project to provide free email to all eligible Malaysians ? Where do they get the fund and who are the investors behind Tricubes Sdn Bhd ?.

However, trust that they have their "secret recipe and strategy" which might be similar to google email, yahoo email, hotmail email and other free email services providers. Do all of us naively think that those existing free email service providers are not making money and gain benefits - whether tangible and intangible benefits from providing FREE email services ? If we think they are not, think again !

2. Another means the government tries to control and monitor Malaysians.

Imagine how much saving that can be derived through paperless transaction. The efficiency and effectiveness to be achieved when dealing with 100 ++ government agencies in a secure server through single ID identification? Aren't we a society that complaint too much how inefficient and ineffective some government agencies ? non ?

I view this positively as the intention and objective of this free email is as a channel and means of communication in a secured environment - such as receiving EPF Statement, ASN/ASB & Dividend Statement, Bank Statement, Income Tax matters, application to enter full boarding school, cukai tanah, government announcement, cukai pintu and tracking of complaints to government agencies and everything will be done ONLINE. What a heaven. I can access it from everywhere in the world as long as I a connected !! No need to travel to government agencies and queuing up for my "giliran".

It will increase the productivity as I no longer require to take annual leave to renew my passport and Identity Card ! I might use it for my vacations in Timbuktu and Curitiba !

However, if people think they would like to receive things that are "privy to them" , simply do not use the government free email. People can still use gmail yahoo, hotmail, worldmail etc. What and where are the issues here ? What make us think that these email providers are not monitoring what we sent and what we received ? Think again.

3. We have gmail, yahoo and hotmail. We do not need another email !

For one, the government will not stop its beloved Malaysians citizens to use the whatever free emails that we have, at least not that I know off. Unless, I am wrong and there is actually plan to block this emails services providers ? It is up to us and in the end, as mentioned it is optional and voluntarily for us to utilize the email.Just use the provided emails to only government related transactions and communications. What and where is the big deals ?

I have read from one study that Malaysians rely much of the decisions based on the emotional feelings. If I can share with the rest, why not look this objectively as my worry is that we are losing out to our neighbors and the benefits to all of us it provides because we are blinded by emotions.

I am thinking, what would be the best email ID ? xxxx @1malaysia.com . Any suggestion ?
