Sports is not just a game. It is not who win or lose in the battle field. It is bigger than that especially when it comes to marketing & branding. If not, why multinational companies like Petronas involves in Formula 1 ? SAP with Rugby ? Rolex with Golf ? BNP Paribas with Tennis ? Unicef with Football ?
Listen to the video, and you will understand why ? Back to the topic. Shall Malaysia focus on all sports ? My take, nothing wrong about it. It is good for the nations. However, my personal view is that Malaysia shall focus more on the following 4 big ticket sports, with billions multiple effects and spill-over to the economy namely ;
1. Golf-G
2. Formula 1-1
3. Football- F
4. Tennis- T
While writing this, I remembered what one of my high school friend told me the story about a teacher cum our hostel warden Cikgu Ali.
That friend of mine saw him played golf on our normal school grass field/turf during weekend. He asked Cikgu Ali why he plays golf on the field, and also asked that based on his observation that this Cikgu Ali plays tennis ?
Mind you, these two sports were not the " SPORTS" in my school. RUGBY was the SPORT during my day.
His reply was ;
" These are the two sports that generate a lot of money and income. You do not have to be professional to earn your living "
When my high school friend told me about it, we were just laughed only to realize that Cikgu Ali Mat Derus was right about these two sports.
Stay tune, for Part 2 !
