How much did Tiger Wood worth in 2010 ? [ well before what happened in his personal life].

" Tiger Woods is on target to become the first person on the planet to accumulate $1 billion through sporting prowess alone.

Forbes magazine, which annually ranks the world's richest people in its Celebrity 100 list, suggests that the endorsement- friendly golfer will pass through the $1 billion mark in 2010. The magazine reports that Woods earned $115 million in 2007 alone, almost twice the earnings of the second-placed sportsman on the list: model and footballer David Beckham, who banked $65 million.

Woods is a sports marketing dream, having earned more than $750 million in endorsement deals to date in his career. At 32, he has won 50 tournaments faster than any player in history and is closing in on Jack Nicklaus' record of 18 major championship wins. But it is not just the talent of Woods that makes him so attractive to sponsors. He is good-looking and courteous, and a role model for young people from a variety of backgrounds.

When he is playing in a tournament, television ratings increase by at least one third and often more, as demonstrated during the course of his recent stunning victory at the US Open in Torrey Pines.
Nine-tenths of Woods' total earnings come from lucrative endorsement and sponsorship deals with companies such as Nike, Buick and Gillette, which will reportedly land him $90 million in 2008.
Such companies take great care to maximise their opportunities with Woods, and every working day apart from golf tournaments is rigorously scheduled. On a flying visit to Britain, for example, Woods will be expected to give press conferences for written and televisual media, make a carefully choreographed public appearance, deliver an inspirational speech to the staff of one or more of his UK sponsors, and dine with the senior executives of a sponsoring firm before flying back to the United States."

I do not have to write in greater length about the Tiger Wood, but Malaysia shall seriously and carefully plan to produce own Malaysian Tigers. Is it a mission of impossible ? My answer, it is possible as long as we are very serious about it. Learn from the best how the USA and Europe produce champions more than any other continents in the world  at such a young age. It takes a lot of mindset changes and thinking outside the box, before Malaysia can produce own tigers. It needs political will to make the changes, such as changes to the education system, business openness, social perception about sports as way to make living. We may not need to go further as our neighbour Thailand have been producing golfers and champions at Asian level.

We have the talents and resources, but all we need is the environment to make it happens. Skeptics will always be there, but if Malaysia is serious to make Malaysia a high income nation by 2020, we shall start producing our own Tigers !! The real challenge is to dismiss the perception that Golf is a sport for the rich and famous, but rather a sport that shall create the rich and famous among Malaysians.

The spill over ? Surely will further promote and stamp Malaysia's position as the premier destination for world class championship, and a popular tourist destination.
